ThingsCon Milan Design Week brings you tech.NO.MAD, feeling at home everywhere; a 5 day event (5-9th April) of exhibitions, talks and workshops exploring the different aspects of the neo-nomadic lifestyle.

Engage with several interactive IoT products, prototypes and concepts that touch the emotional aspects of the nomadic behaviours. Come express your view on data sharing through a fun and interactive installation. Get inspired by daily talks and learn the latest trends in IoT and design for the neo-nomads. Try out and master new skills with hands-on workshops.

Are you a neo-nomad?

THE PROGRAM

Data, privacy & security is not ON/OFF, but it is a gradient. There is a trade-off between personal data shared in return for value. It is vital for businesses to be transparent about how they use their users’ data and should allow for user autonomy.
The installation will allow visitors to explore in a fun and interactive way how comfortable they feel in sharing personal data in different situations.
The exhibition will also showcase several interactive products, prototypes and concepts to explore the different aspects of the neo nomadic lifestyle.

An evening of exciting talks and workshop to learn everything you need to know about Chat-Bots. What are they and how do they work? Why are they such a big opportunity and how are they disrupting user experience? Finally, get the opportunity to build one by yourself! So come join us and don’t miss the chance to meet other like-minded people.

PERSONAL ASSISTANTS SUPPORTING YOUR NOMADIC WORK AND LIFE
Companies need to enable new distributed sites while making easier for their employees to share their experiences and improving their efficiency in a short time. People living outside their main site need to quickly adapt to changes, knowing the specificities of the place and feel at home. A Virtual Personal Assistant platform, able to integrate personal device services, even when offline, social platforms and company data in an easy to master way, enabling the use of Natural Language Processing, can really make the difference.

TELEGRAM BOT – CREATE AND RUN YOUR FIRST CHAT-BOT USING TELEGRAM AND AN ARDUINO COMPATIBLE BOARD
2017 is considered to be the year of conversational UI . Several services like newspaper, financial analysis website or even apps (i.e. Uber) are migrating their functionalities into this new scenario. Chat-Bots which, inside Whatsapp, Telegram, Messenger, WeChat, offer the same functionalities of other services but in a completely different way. As a matter of fact, more and more people are defining Bots as the “new apps”. Within the workshop, you will be given a spread of knowledge of the state of the art of conversational user interfaces and, by the end of the course, you will be able to create and control a Telegram Bot using a simple Arduino-like microcontroller.

20:00

HAPPY HOUR WITH FOOD & REFRESHMENTS

BEYOND MAKING THINGS WORK
To paraphrase Vitruvius: products need to be robust—to work— (firmitas), appropriate to people and their context (commoditas), and a pleasure to use (venustas). The technologies that enable today’s nomadic lifestyle are very recent and, enabled by them, a rather random hotch-potch of devices, applications, and social conventions have emerged. Gillian Crampton Smith will ask what do we lose, and what do we gain from the nomadic lifestyle? What are the untapped potentials of the connected world? What kind of life would we really wish they enabled us to live? And how could we get there?

X-Mas Innovation

X-MAS INNOVATION

 20 DECember 2016

It already is time for the second ThingsCon Salon event in Milan.
After the successful first ever event in Italy, we are coming right before this holiday season with a fresh resolution for the upcoming new year: Innovation!

But as it is the beginning of holidays, it makes sense to indulge ourselves in the Christmas spirit. So this time we are bringing to you some really cool IoT projects which also chime in with the Natale symphonies.

Through these products’ stories, we will look into the realities of the market situation, how they found their respective niches, and their journey from idea, conceptualization, prototyping all the way to the shelves of the market.

PROJECTS & PROTOTYPES

EVENT SCHEDULE

Find us at the entrance to check-in or to register. Anyways, come early and grab the best seats for the event.

Pier Bardoni welcomes you to the 2nd edition of ThingsCon Salon in Milan. He introduces our team, our partners and the event itself to those who are new to it.

enrico-noseda1Enrico Noseda, Partner at growITup (growth platform for Italian startups) introduces their Empowering Communities initiative program as a new partner of ThingsCon Milan.

Anshul Jain, Product Experience Designer and Federico Giaimo, UX Strategist & Researcher at  THINGS Srl guide us into the quickly changing realm of IoT and smart devices, how they are now entering the more personal niches of our life changing the way we live. All this, with a flavour of Christmas.

Mario Callisto & Marco Franciosa, Co-founders of LEDWorks shed some light on their journey from idea, to concept, to prototyping and finally on market shelves and in our homes. They share with us the thick and thin of their startup journey.

Raffaele Curci, CFO & Co-founder of Mind Music Labs is creating a connected music ecosystem for smart instruments. They have developed the world’s first truly smart guitar and would like to share their story.

Pier Bardoni concludes the event while throwing in a chip or two of his own perspective about the rapidly transforming terrain of the digital – physical world we live in.

Its time to meet people with similar interests. There might be plenty of opportunities for startuppers, investors, techies, enthusiasts, basically everyone. Make the best of it. Whats more, try hands-on the prototypes/products presented.

Like all good things, this evening must come to an end. While wishing you a fantastic Christmas and a great new year ahead, we would like to suggest you to stay tuned, as 2017 is going to be a big one!

Hyper Connected Domesticity

Hyper Connected Domesticity

 28 june 2016

We took a peek into the near future of IoT: Smart Homes, where the intelligence of the environment is spread among digital / physical products and services.

At Hyper Connected Domesticity, the first event of the ThingsCon community in Italy, we talked about potential ideas to enable the smart home, discussing how they enhance our day-to-day interactions while opening new levels of user experience.

Students of the Master in Interaction Design at Domus Academy explored the topics of enhanced domesticity and soft monitoring to develop concepts and prototypes of connected objects able to go beyond the mobile interfaces and product performances.

They focused on home and personal behaviours, enhancing human interactions and communication both in domestic and remote environment, exploring playful dialogues between people and objects, and debating about objects personality, need of attention and emotional intimacy.

The 4 projects resulting from this work were presented at Hyper Connected Domesticity.
